Obituary
Mr. John Willis Wolfe, 86, of Burlington died at 3:18 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011, at Blair House Nursing and Rehab.
Born April 9, 1925 in New London, he was the son of Fern and Cecil Courter Wolfe. On June 4, 1948 he married Darlene Hill in Burlington at the First United Methodist Church parsonage by the Rev. John Poole.
Mr. Wolfe attended Wapello schools and was a graduate of Danville High School. He was an Army veteran serving with the 31st Infantry in World War II in the Philippines and South Pacific. During WWII he suffered the loss of his brother James who was also serving at that time.
Mr. Wolfe was a farmer in the Winfield and Sperry areas and also retired from General Electric after 23 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington, Moose Lodge No. 579 and the VFW #10102. He loved country living and farm life. He enjoyed being outdoors, watching sports and attending his grandchildren's activities, but most of all he loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Darlene Wolfe of Burlington; two sons, John (Terrie) Wolfe of Burlington and Gary Wolfe of Burlington; two daughters, Sue Wolfe and Patty (James) Russell both of Burlington; ten grandchildren; nine great granddaughters; one brother, Jerry Wolfe of Burlington and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Wolfe and James Wolfe; and four sisters, Alberta Forbes, Frances Wolfe, Meridel Hopson and Betty Distelhorst.
