Frank E. Winter, 90, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Bickford Cottage, Burlington, Iowa, on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Born on April 5, 1923 in Maysville, Missouri, he was the son of Harry E. and Maude Steffey Winter. He married Miriam Oldt on June 26, 1946 in Burlington, Iowa.
Frank was a World War II veteran serving with the 34th Infantry in Africa, Sicily and Italy where he was taken prisoner. He was a construction superintendent for Carl A. Nelson & Company for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Malta Lodge, VFW, American Legion and Southeast Iowa Builders Association where he served many years as Chairman of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee. After retiring he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golfing and being a member of the “Divot Patrol” at Spirit Hollow Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Winter; two daughters, Diane Winter Hilkin and Julie Winter both of Burlington, Iowa; one grandson, John (Allison) Hilkin of Centennial, Colorado; one granddaughter, Liz Hilkin (Doug Haake) of Austin, Texas; two great-grandsons, Elliott Hilkin and Desmond Hilkin both of Centennial, Colorado; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Catherine Kelly; and one brother, Keith Winter.
Memorial services for Frank Winter will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Prugh’s Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel one hour prior to the service.
