William Don McKinley Willson 75, of West Burlington died at 2:53 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2009, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born March 4, 1934 in Yarmouth Iowa, he was the son of Grover A. and Matilda A. Brookhiser Willson. On July 1, 1955 he married Shirley A. Johnson in Burlington, Iowa.
Mr. Willson was a 1951 graduate of Yarmouth High School. He was a truck driver for 35 to 40 years before retiring January 29, 1993, from J.I. Case Company. He was a member of the Teamster Union, past member of the Eagles and a member of the Moose since October 1973. Mr. Willson enjoyed gardening, fishing, his dogs and horses and bowling. He also enjoyed helping his brother Ralph with his dump truck. He was very proud of the many accomplishments he did in building his family’s home.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Willson of West Burlington; one daughter, Kari Sue Potter of West Burlington; a sister Anna L. Comstock of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, James E. Willson of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call after noon on Monday, October 5th in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service for Mr. Willson will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 6th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Following the funeral service the body of Mr. Willson will be cremated. Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and Fort Madison Health Center.
