John Francis Williams Jr., 69, of Burlington, died at 7:25 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Great River Hospice in West Burlington. Born Aug. 20, 1938, in Bushnell, Ill., he was the son of John Francis Sr. and Frances Chambers Williams. On Oct. 5, 1968, he married Gloria Jean Perkins in Burlington. She died in 1991. On April 8, 2000, he married JoAnn Dirth in Burlington. Mr. Williams was a USG operator for 30 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed all sports and was a fan of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and Dale Earnhart Jr. Survivors include his wife of Burlington; three daughters, Elizabeth Williams of Phoenix, Ariz., Jean Mattson of Burlington and Jolene O'Neil of Bushnell, Ill.; one son, John Francis Williams III of Mount Pleasant; one stepdaughter, Brenda Page of Robins; two stepsons, Kevin Dirth of Muscatine and David Dirth of West Burlington; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Zona Mae Markley of Bushnell and Lana Kay Williams of Bushnell; and one brother, Ted Williams of Bushnell. He was preceded in death by two wives and one grandson. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Prugh's Chapel, where family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Williams will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Deb Miller officiating. Burial will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First Presbyterian Church and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
