Obituary

Ellen Joyce Wiemer, 84, of Burlington, died at 12:18 PM Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born February 18, 1933, in Charles City, IA, she was the daughter of Elmer Nelson and Iva Lottman Rutledge. On July 18, 1954, she married Paul Wayne Wiemer in Charles City, IA. He died on October 12, 2004.

Ellen worked for Champion Spark Plugs for 34 years.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a member of Duck's Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the Foundation of North American Wild Sheep. She enjoyed word find, gardening, gambling at the casino, traveling, vacationing, bird and deer watching.

Survivors include her daughter, Tina Renee (Dan) Savage of Burlington; three grandchildren, James (Ann) Vaughan of Des Moines, Tasha Runnells of Burlington, and Allan (Racheal) Runnells of North Liberty; her caretaker, Denise Peal of Burlington; her dog, Shadow; and her granddog, Pearl.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Kimberly A. Vaughan, one brother, Earl Rutledge, and one sister, Ruth Hollensteiner

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, March 6, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Wiemer will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Hermansen officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Bethany Lutheran Church and the Des Moines County Humane Society.
