Alfred Edwin Adams, 53, of 1213 S. Fourth street, a CB&Q switch tender, died suddenly of a heart attack at about 4:30 p.m. Friday while he was at work between Fourth and Fifth streets.
He was taken to Burlington hospital by police ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival. Adams, a railroad employee for 7 years had lived in Burlington for 27 years. Previously, he worked at the Sheaffer Pen Company in Ft. Madison for 8 or 10 years.
Adams was born Dec. 31, 1890, at Bangor, Maine and was married here April 8, 1921, to the former Alta McElroy of Burlington. He operated a filling station here before working for the railroad.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Surviving is his widow, a daughter, Darlyne Adams, a college student at Wheaton, Il, a son, Lt A.E. Adams, Jr. of the navy air force, stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas; 2 brothers, William E. and Charles Adams, both of Winthrop, Mass, and 2 grand-children.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist church with Rev. Deane Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. The body will be at Burnett Wallen funeral home until noon Sunday.
