James "Jim" Jonathon Blott, 93, of Burlington, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 14, 1916, in Memphis, Missouri, he was the son of Clyde W. and Edna Lee Blott. On October 1, 1938, he married Jeanetta Ann Danielson in Burlington. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2002. Mr. Blott was a 1934 graduate of Burlington High School. He served two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Mr. Blott worked for Murray Iron Works and the Trane Company for 41 years, retiring in 1977. He performed all operations related to steam turbines and gears, including service work, foreman, and inspector. He was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church, lifetime member of International Association of Machinist Union Local 1521, member of Copus Murray Twenty-Five Year Club, R.S.V.P., A.A.R.P. and the Senior Center. Mr. Blott enjoyed hunting, canoeing on the river with his family, cars, riding motorcycles, working on watches, and engraving guns. One of his biggest enjoyments was traveling the United States with his family. Jim was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survivors include one son, Gary (Sharon) Blott of Burlington; one granddaughter, Shelly (Tom) Watts of Burlington; and three great-grandchildren, Alex Gaddis, Tyler Watts, and Sami Lee Watts, all of Burlington. Besides his wife; his parents, three brothers, and one sister preceded him in death. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. Blott will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 14th, in Lunning Chapel. The Reverend Jackie Bradford will officiate. Inerment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for West Burlington United Methodist Church.
