Elaine P. White, 90, of Burlington, died 3:04 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born October 31, 1921 in Guthrie County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Walter and Lola (Stewart) Phipps. She married Carson White on May 16, 1942 in Montgomery City, MO. He died March 12, 2000. Mrs. White was an executive secretary and assistant editor for the Mt. Pleasant Research Bureau for 13 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ and served on many groups with the church. She was a member of the Golden Oldies. She volunteered at Corse School and Great River Medical Center, and delivered meals on wheels. She enjoyed reading, gardening and jigsaw puzzles and she loved her dogs. Survivors include two daughters; Judith White (Bill) Gerdes of Burlington and Sherry (Charles) DiCroce of Jupiter, Florida; one son, James (Lynda) White of West Burlington; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one sister, Lucille Hollison of Lake Forest, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Stephen and Thomas, three brothers and one sister. The funeral service for Mrs. White will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 7th in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Benton will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7th in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial has been established for First Christian Church- Disciples of Christ.
