Dr. John A. Abercrombie, one of the pioneer letter carriers of Burlington and later an oculist, who died Monday in his home in Ridgeway, MO will be buried in Burlington, The body, in care of his sister, Mrs. Carl Vogt of Denver, Colo. will reach Burlington today and be taken to Prugh's chapel. The funeral will be held either Thursday or Friday.
Dr. Abercrombie was born in Burlington sixty years ago. He was the son of Col. J.C. Abercrombie, a gallant soldier in both the Mexican and Civil wars. In the early nineties, Dr. Abercrombie served as a mail carrier and was one of the first carriers on the North Hill route. Later he went to Des Moines and afterward became a successful oculist. He was active in the Sons of Veterans while in Burlington.
