Danny Joe "Krogy" Krogmeier, 61, of West Burlington, died at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at his home. Born November 11, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert and Darlene Hester Krogmeier. In March 1970, he married Barbara Bonnell in Newfoundland. They divorced. The late Karen Gibb was his special friend. Mr. Krogmeier worked as an electrician's helper, and operated an overhead crane for BNSF Railroad from October 1970 to January 2004. He served as Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was of the Catholic faith and was a volunteer. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball and pool, playing cards and mushroom hunting. Survivors include two sons, Sheldon Krogmeier of Burlington, and Danny Krogmeier of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren; his mother, Darlene Whalen of Burlington; three sisters, Georgia McCollum of Mojave, Ariz., Sharon Wiley of West Burlington, and Cindy Bowen of Burlington; three brothers, Gene Krogmeier of Danville, Gary Krogmeier of New London, and Eddie Krogmeier of Burlington; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and his special friend. Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. The funeral with military rites for Mr. Krogmeier will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. The body will be cremated. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established
