Martha Jordan Weygant, 70, of Burlington, died at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa, on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 6:35 a.m. Born on May 12, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of Dr. Phillip D. and Marion Valentine Jordan. She married Kenneth P. Weygant on May 29, 1984, in Cactus, Texas. She received her B.A. degree from Mt. Holy Oak College, her M.A. from the University of Minnesota, and her teaching certificate from Iowa Wesleyan College. She was a writer, having written Hawkeye History for the Burlington Hawk Eye and Des Moines County News. She was a member of the Daughters of the Union Veterans, and former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames XVII Century. She was a descendant of Moses Dillon Jordan, a Burlington pioneer. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church. She is survived by her husband Kenneth of Burlington; mother-in-law Esther Weygant of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister-in-law Kathy Alter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Graveside services will be held at a later date following cremation. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and Des Moines Co. Special Needs Foundation.
