Obituary
Mr. LaVerne Richard Weyer, 84, of Burlington, died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Great River Medical Center. Born July 25, 1926, in Burlington, he was the son of Henry and Ida Dockum Weyer. On March 14, 1959, he married Gracia Sparrow in Burlington. She preceded him in death on April 6, 1987. Mr. Weyer was a 1944 graduate of Burlington High School, and a graduate of DeVry Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. He owned and operated Industrial Electric Motors, Inc. in Burlington for 39 years, retiring in 1994. Mr. Weyer was of the Christian faith. Mr. Weyer was a World War II veteran, serving as a Sergeant in the 78th Infantry Division Field Artillery Unit of the U.S. Army operating in Germany. He received a Bronze Battle Star. In May of 2010 he was able to take the Honor Flight tour to see his memorial in Washington, D.C. Mr. Weyer was also a life member of the VFW, a member of the Eagles, and a member of the 78th Division Association. Mr. Weyer enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid walker, and had many friends along his North Hill route. Survivors include one son, Jeffrey L. (Jennifer Ginsburg) Weyer of Madison, Wisconsin; one daughter, Nancy (Brian) Granaman of Burlington; and four grandchilden, Norah Weyer, Leah Weyer, Ryan Granaman, and Riley Granaman. He was preceded in death by his wife, mother, father, and one brother. The funeral service for Mr. Weyer will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 15th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Intermentk will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will visit with family and friends for one hour prior to the time of service. A memorial has been established.
