Eleanor Werner, 93, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Prairie Ridge Care & Rehabilitation in Mediapolis, Iowa. She was born July 26, 1918, at Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence R. and Cornelia Merrick Prindle. On September 20, 1937, she married Ellsworth L. Werner in Burlington, Iowa. He died February 2, 1987. She worked at National Research Bureau for 14 years as a private secretary, and Burlington Bank & Trust for three years as a secretary in the Trust Department. Eleanor was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Moose and Eagles Lodges, and Steamboat Senior Center. She enjoyed dancing, reading, music, and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years, and time spent at their cabin on the Mississippi River. She is survived by one son, Larry (Maryann) Werner of Burlington; one daughter, Sharon Thye also of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Debbie) Ryner, Kenna Ryner, Darcy (Jon) Hedges, Jeff (Julie) Werner, Tina Chandler, Darin Thye, Dusty (Vicky) Thye, all of Burlington, Trent (Darcy) Werner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Charles "Chip" Werner of Austin, Texas; 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellsworth; one son, Terry Werner; one daughter, Dolores "Dee" Hagerty-Smith; four sisters, Hazel Risden, Gladys Johnson, Mamie Haase, and Bernice Bearce; two brothers, Thomas Prindle and Roy Merrick; and one son-in-law, William Thye. Funeral Services will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jane Willan will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Prugh's Chapel on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel one hour prior to the time of the service on Thursday. A memorial has been established for Zion United Church of Christ.
