Loris Marie Welsh, 83, of 2120 Gnahn St., died at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1990, at the Elmview Care Center. Born Dec. 8, 1906, in LaCrosse, Wis., she was the daughter of Alfred and Mary Bailey Johnson. She married John Howie, who died in 1970. She later married Robert L. Welsh Sr. Oct. 14, 1977, in Burlington. She had been an operator for the telephone company in Burlington, a volunteer at Burlington Medical Center, and had taught English to southeast Asians. She was a member of the FIrst United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband; three stepsons, Robert Welsh, Jr. of Burlington, Ronald Welsh of Muscatine, and Steven Welsh of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters, Marian e. Hingst of West Burlington, and Genevive M. Herriges of Bettendorf; one brother, Alfred Johnson of Florida; 15 step grandchildren and eight great-step grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel. The service for Mrs. Welsh will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel with Dr. Robert Dodder officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church music program.
