Richard Michael Welch Sr., 75, of 39 Midtown Gardens, died at 10:02 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 1993, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Aug. 24, 1917, in Burlington, he was the son of Michael S. Welch and Katherine
Smith. On April 9, 1939, he married Mary Weimer in Memphis, Mo. She died Feb. 27, 1965. on Feb. 14, 1966, he married Leonora Taulman. Mr. Welch was a locomotive engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad for 45 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He attended Burlington Catholic schools. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Michael Welch Jr. of Burlington, and Ronald W. Welch of Killeen,Texas; three brothers, James Welch and John Welch, both of Burlington, and Raymond Welch of Indianapolis; four sisters, Helen Hubsch of Orlando,Fla., Frances Kaldenberg of Seymour, Iowa, and Veronica Loserth and Mary Rita Frye, both of West Burlington; II grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.Visitation will be after 8 a.m.Monday at Lunning Chapel. Following a 7 p.m. prayer service, the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m. at the chapel.The funeral for Mr. Welch will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb.2,at St. Patrick's Catholic. The
Rev. Michael Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
