Obituary
Mrs. Marie M. Bird, long-time resident of the Stockport community, died at about 12:23 pm Monday, Aug. 17, at the Burlington hospital. Her death followed an extended illness.
Last rites will be Wednesday at 2:30 pm at the Prugh Funeral home in Burlington. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. The services will be in charge of the Rev. Earl Meissner.
She had made her home in Stockport for the past several years and entered the hospital two weeks ago.
Mrs. Marie M. Bird was born in Burlington on Aug. 21, 1903, the daughter of Charles and Mary Menke Stohler. She was married Jan. 4. 1922 in Burlington to Charles B. Chapman. He died in 1935.
She was later married to Eugene C. Bird on Sept. 8, 1938, at Kahoka, Mo.
Mrs. Bird is survived by her husband and five children: Mrs. Norma Martindale, Mrs. Martha Schmidt, Charles Chapman, and Mark Bird, all of Burlington; and Marjetta Bird, at home in Stockport.
Other survivors include two step-children, Kendal Bird, Crystal Lake, Ill., and Mrs. Beverly Erickson, Logansport, Ind.: 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
