Mr. Shirley Lee Webster, 91, of Burlington, died at 8:36 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born February 22, 1925 in Rushville, IL, he was the son of Harold and Dorothy Young Webster. On August 20, 1955, he married Shirley Lea Ralston in Iowa City.
Mr. Webster graduated from Rushville High School Class of 1941. He served in the United States Navy during WW II in the Pacific on a gasoline tanker as a radioman transcribing Morse code.
He was an electrician serving his apprenticeship with Turner Electric. He worked for Marv Pohren until Marv retired then Shirley purchased the business retiring in November of 1993.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 70 years being very active and serving as an elder and deacon. Shirley was a member of the Masonic Lodge #9 of Rushville, 32nd degree Mason, York Rite Knights Templar. He was past Patron of E.C. Blackmar Chapter #545 O.E.S.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan, Charter member of the Black Hawk Booster Club having season tickets since the beginning, and a lead player in the Burlington Paint-A-Thon. Shirley loved making lives better for others. He actively worked for Habitat for Humanity, and on one "job" worked with Jimmy and Roslyn Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Lea Webster; one son, Randy Lee (Paul Walker) Webster of Burlington; one daughter, Beth Ann (Tommy) Pittman of Buford, GA; grandchildren Paul Walker, Jr. and Heather Walker, and his "grandchildren" Andrew, Mackenzie, and Madison Osborn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Maurice, and one daughter Patricia Ann Webster.
Visitation will be from Noon until 7 p.m. on Monday Jan 2nd, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m.
There will be a luncheon served in Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3rd. The funeral service for Mr. Webster will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Deb Kinney officiating.
The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites with interment following in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First Presbyterian Church.
