Edward Dale Webb, Sr., 84, of Burlington, died at Great River Hospice House, on Friday, October 15, 2010, at 3:48 a.m. Born on June 19, 1926, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of George Henry and Etta Pearl Blansett Webb. He married Mable VanStienburg on Aril 26, 1947, at the First Christian Church in Burlington, Iowa. Ed served in the Army during World War II. He was employed by IAAP Ordinance Plant, Atomic Energy Commission for 24 years, 10 months. He loved bluegrass music and played the dobro and banjo. He also loved riding motorcycles, camping, and going out on the river. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader, and a life member of D.A.V. Chapter 4. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mable; two daughters, Sharon K. Barnes of Denmark, Iowa, and Sarah Shoemaker of LaHarpe, Illinois; two sons, Dan Webb of Danville, Iowa, and Edward Webb, Jr. of Burlington, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, George, and Harley; and two sisters, Edith and Mildred. Graveside ash committal services for Edward Dale Webb, Sr. will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Pastor Bruce Goettsche will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. There will be no formal visitation, as per his wishes, cremation has been accorded.
