Madeline "Madge" Wilson Babcook Watkins, 88, of 2910 Madison Ave. Burlington, formerly of Denmark and Mediapolis, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 1995, at Burlington Medical Center Klein Unit. Born March 7, 1906, in Carman, Ill., she was the daughter of Horace Reuben and Meme Romaine Burnett Babcook. She married Charles Parish, who preceded her in death. She later married C. Clifford "Dutch" Watkins on March 18, 1938 in Kahoka, Mo. He died on Oct. 1, 1985. Mrs. Watkins attended schools in Gladstone and Stronghurst, Ill., before graduating in 1925 at Russell. Mrs. Watkins worked at the J.L. Hudson department store in Detroit, Mich., for several years. She was a homemaker. She and her husband farmed near Denmark until 1953, when they moved to Burlington. Later they farmed near Middletown for several years before retiring to Mediapolis. She was a former member of Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington. Survivors include one daughter, Janet Haus of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one son, Raymond Watkins of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gail H. Babcock of Gladstone, Ill., and Boyd L. Babcock of St. Louis, Mo. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Thursday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Watkins will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Gregg Donaldson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
