Obituary
Mystery surrounds the death of David C. Warner, 40, prominent Chicago hair stylist and former Burlington resident. Warner was killed in a fall Friday, July 21, from the hotel in which he lived an operated a beauty salon complex. A spokesman for the Chicago police department said "neither murder nor suicide has been ruled out." Warner fell or was pushed from a window in the Belden-Stratford hotel, 2300 N. Lincoln Park West, about 6:30 p.m. Friday, police said. A witness told police he saw the plunging body hit two power lines and Commonwealth Edison Co. said the lines were broken at 6:31. Police reported that they found a door to the fire escape open on the 12th (top) story of the hotel. They said there were no signs of foul play in Warner's apartment, and that his body was fully clothed except for his shoes. Warner lived on the second floor with a roommate, Martin Thompson, 25, police said. Thompson and Martha Hunt, manager of the salon, told police Warner had not appeared to be despondent and appeared to be in good health. They said he left the salon Thursday, complaining of a toothache, and stayed in his apartment Friday to nurse the tooth. Warner and Charles A. Berry Jr. opened the David Warner Salon last December after they had taken over the hotel's second-floor ballroom and mezzanine area and transformed them into a luxurious salon. Warner was born July 11, 1938 at Woonsocket, S.D. the son of John and Mary Wilson Warner.
