Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Bliss, 61, of West Burlington, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
Born Nov. 29, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Clarence Clifford and Ruth W. Luetger Bliss. On March 12, 1966, he married Carolyn K. Corman in Fort Carson, Colo.
Mr. Bliss was a machinist at Federal-Mogul for 29 years. He previously worked at Georgia Pacific in Burlington for 13 years. He and his wife operated the Caboose in Fairway Center for 12 years. He served in Korea while in the Army from 1964 to 1966.
He attended Burlington schools. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Iowa State Pigeon Association, United Auto Workers, Cowboys for Christ in Springdale, Ark., and a former member of the Mosse Lodge in Burlington. He raised Bokara Russian Trumpeter pigeons and show pigeons. He and Gary DeJaynes started Cruise night in Burlington in 1988.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Theresa Cross of West Burlington and Teri Carey of Danville; five grandchildren; his mother of Burlington; one sister Janice Lee Mehaffy of Burlington; two half-sisters, Sandra Lee Walker of Richland Center, Wis., and Yvonne “Bonnie” Sue Weitzel of Spring Green, Wis.; one-half brother, Danny Lewis Bliss of North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son and his father.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at 11598 Woody Lane, off Beaverdale Road, rural West Burlington.
A graveside memorial funeral service will be at 10:30 Wednesday at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Debbie Lewis as facilitator. The Veterans Honor Guard of VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League, and AMVets Post 29 will conduct military rites.
