Wilbert Everett Ward, 85, of 3012 30th Street Dr. SE, died December 9, 2008 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a long illness. Services: 5 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Private Burial: Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. Survivors include his wife, Joan; his children, Sandra of Atlanta, GA, Wilberta of Dallas and Mark of Marion; four grandchildlren, Steven Greenlee, Jason Ward, Justin Ward and Kyle Greenlee; and a great-grandchild, Quintin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Caroline Ward; 10 brothers and sisters;; and his wife, Patricia Ward. Wilbert was a member of Teamsters and worked for American Freight for 33 years, retiring in 1987. During his life he owned two fuel and service centers before working for Allen Motor Co. for seven years. He enjoyed wildlife and the outdoors, and loved hunting, fishing and camping with family. His laugh was infectious and could bring a smile to anyone's face. He married Patricia Kay Harmer in December 1960, and remained married until her passing in May, 1989. He had a close friendship with Darlene Ament for 10 years. In 2002, he married Clara Joan Houtz. He will be greatly missed by all.
