Arthur Alvin Ward, 103, of Arbor Court Care Center in Mount Pleasant, formerly of Mediapolis, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Arbor Court. Born Oct. 14, 1901, near West Burlington, he was the so of George Hildreth and Eveleen Perry Ward. on Aug. 9. 1930 he married Stella Hoambrecker in Burlington. Mr. Ward worked for one year at the Ordnance Plant as it was being built. He was a lifelong farmer in the Mediapolis community. He also did some carpentry work. He attended Liberty Country School. He was a member of Mediapolis First Baptist Church and Des Moines County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Arlene Rude Wright of Mount Pleasant; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Ward will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Baker officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First Baptist Church in Mediapolis and Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service.
