Linda Joyce Walter, 54, of Burlington, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Born Aug. 15, 1947, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Lloyd E. and Virginia Gilman Leininger. Mrs. Walter was a case worker for Financial Adjustment Bureau for 16 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Madison and a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association in Burlington. She enjoyed reading, knitting, spending time with her friends in the Fort Madison area. Survivors include one son, James M. Walter of Fort Madison; one daughter Jeannette Wachter of Burlington; seven brothers, Frank E. Leininger of Franklin, Robert L. Leininger and Keith A. Gilman, both of Fort Madison, David Leininger of Fort Worth, Texas, Thomas Gilman of Farmington, Steve Gilman of Montrose and Daniel Gilman of Robertsville, Mo.; one sister, Patricia l. Poggemiller of West Burlington; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Walter will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel, with the Rev. Tom Sundam officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
