Hugh "Hughie" G. Walter 78, of 716 S. Third St., died Monday, july 20, 1992, at Burlington Medical Center's Klein Unit. Born April 14, 1914 , in Burlington, he was the son of Hugh and Meta Wegener Walter. He married Lucille Gladman. She preceded him in death. He later married Dolores Werner on April 12, 1990, in Burlington. Mr. Walter was a real estate broker for his company, ABC Realty, was a commercial fisherman and owned the first bicycle shop in Burlington. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Des Moines County Historical Society and collected antiques and Indian relics. Survivors include his wife, Dolores; two sons, Jim Walter of Burlington and John Walter of Traer; a daughter, Judith Walter-Maggrett of Rockville, Md.; a sister, Dorothy Stafford of Sarasota, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, with Moose rites conducted at 7 p.m. at Sheagren Funeral Home. The funeral for Mr. Walter will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sheagren Funeral Home with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Historical Society.
