Hazel B. Bliss, 84, of Burlington, died at 2:50 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 12, 1924, in Rosebud, Texas, she was the daughter of Louis G. and Mary Emma Davis McDaniel. On August 11, 1943, she married Richard Bliss in Waco, Texas. Besides being a homemaker and mother, Mrs. Bliss worked at Champion Spark Plug, retiring on January 1, 1988 after 27 years of service. She was an active member of UAW Local 1237 and the Women's Committee. She was founding editor of the Local's newsletter "The Bear Facts", which she published for many years. She loved flowers and working word puzzles and bowling. Survivors include her husband, Richard Bliss of Burlington; one daughter, Brenda (Larry) Larkins of Rockport, Texas; one son, David R. (Jude) Bliss of Burlington; one grandson, Bret Larkins of Ankeny; one great-grandson, Alex Larkins also of Ankeny; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents; one brother, George W. McDaniel; and two sisters, Lucille Black and Beatrice Seith preceded her in death.
