Obituary
Don K. Walter, 90, of Burlington, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, April 14, 1997, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Aug. 13, 1906, in Louisa County, he was the son of John and Ella Haas Walter. He married Leona Beik Aug. 28, 1932. He was a 1930 graduate of the University of Iowa Law College. Mr. Walter practiced law in Burlington for 53 years, most recently with the Cray, Walter, Cray, Loeschen law firm retiring in 1983. He was a past president of Burlington Kiwanis Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce and Des Moines County Bar Association and a member of the American Bar Association, Patriot Masonic Lodge and Burlington Golf Club. Since 1937, he had been a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary Walter (Dr. Frank) Denz of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Lorri ( Marcus) Huey of Glendale, Ariz., Don (Sara) Denz of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sarah (Rick) Madruga of San Diego, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lindsey Huey of Glendale, Ariz., and Blake and Ben Madruga of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Mildred Walter of Columbus Junction; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Kay, his parents, one brother and three sisters. Visitation will be after noon today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Walter will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Rogula officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church in Burlington.
