Leona Beik Walter, 95, died on Tuesday, June 24, 2003. Mrs. Walter was born July 8, 1907, in Louisa County, a daughter of Frank and Mary "Molly" Beik. She married Don Walker August 28, 1932. They lived in Burlington where Mr. Walter practiced law for 53 years. Widowed on April 14, 1997, she then lived in a retirement community near Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs. Walter graduated from college in Cedar Falls and taught elementary school in West Liberty and Burlington for several years. She had been active in Kings Daughters and First United Methodist Church in Burlington. Survivors include a daughter, Mary (walter0 Denz of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Lorri (Denz) Huey of Glendale, Arizona, Don Denz of Oceanside, California, Sarah (Denz) Madruga of Escondido, California; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lindsey Huey and Blake and Benjamin Madruga; a sister, Lucile (Beik) Smylie of Columbus junction; several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Don; a daughter, Donna Kay; one brother and two sisters preceded her in death. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Dennis Tevis will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church.
