Evelyn Lorraine Walsh, 98, of Burlington, died at 4:02 PM Monday, April 24, 2017, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born January 8, 1919, in Wever, she was the daughter of Fred and Mayme Koestner Hartman. On August 30, 1940, she married Francis H. "Snook" Walsh in Burlington, Iowa. He died March 30, 2007.
Evelyn retired from Sheaffer Pen Company.
She was a 1937 graduate of Ft. Madison High School.
She was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, the Altar and Rosary Society, and St. Patrick's ladies card club. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, making baby bonnets and socializing. She cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Gary (Mary) Walsh of Burlington; four daughters, Romajean (James) Messer of Mount Pleasant, Gloria (Ted) Gooch of Tucson, AZ, Lyn (Scott) Salisbury of West Burlington, and Lori (Ron) Steward of Burlington; one son-in-law, Carl Carman of Burlington; 22 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Rosemary Carman; two grandsons, Randy Rettig and Troy Hutchinson; and one great-great-grandaughter, Remi Helling.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, April 27, 2017, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Walsh will be 1:00 PM Friday, April 28, 2017, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
