Obituary
Francis H. “Snook” Walsh, 90, of Burlington, died at 1:38 PM, Friday, March 30, 2007, at his home. Born January 17, 1917, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry A. and Rose Emma DeRosier Walsh. On August 30, 1940, he married Evelyn Lorraine Hartman at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Burlington. Mr. Walsh was a tool and die maker at the Iowa Ordinance Plant and then at the Rock Island Arsenal. He later worked at the Model Clothing Store in downtown Burlington. He graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1935. He was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, clock making, woodworking, mushroom hunting, and Louis Prima music. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; one son, Gary (Mary) Walsh of Burlington; five daughters, Rosemary (Carl) Carman of Burlington, Romajean (James) Messer of Mt. Pleasant, Gloria (Ted) Gooch of Tucson, AZ, Lyn (Scott) Salisbury of Burlington, and Lori (Ron) Steward of Burlington; 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and two grandsons, Randy Rettig and Troy Hutchinson. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM Tuesday, April 3, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where a Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 PM after which the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Walsh will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 4, at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with the Very Rev. Father Gerald E. Stouvenel as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for the YMCA Camp Lodge and St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
