Donald Stephen Walljasper, 78, of rural West Point, Iowa, passed away at 3:13 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, Iowa.
Born May 10, 1936 near Donnellson, Iowa the son of Fredrick and Mildred (McGinnis) Walljasper. On November 27, 1957 he married Patricia Roth at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Pat of West Point, Iowa, two brothers Leroy (Marilyn) Walljasper of West Point, Iowa and Keith Walljasper of West Point, Iowa, one sister Ruth Vorwaldt of Fort Madison, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Don was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point. He was on the Denmark Fire Board for over thirty years and had served as chairman. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau, Lee County Cattlemen, Corn & Soybean Associations. Don enjoyed farming, country and western music and spending time with his family.
Friends may call from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point, Iowa.
The family will meet with friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Ossenbrink Center next to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa with Father Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the Denmark Fire & Rescue or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
