Catherine Anna Bliss, 94, of West Burlington, died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2005, in the Klein Unit of Great River Medical Center. Born February 15, 1911, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Pauline Schlotterbeck Cronk. On January 31, 1931, she married Edward C. Bliss in Kahoka, Missouri. He died on December 25, 1962. Mrs. Bliss retired from J.C. Penney in Burlington. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She also was a member of Women's Fellowship of the Church, and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and making crafts. She was a charter member of the Zion Quilters and made many afghans, sweaters and caps for the Baby Quilters Group and RSVP. She loved to travel. Survivors include three daughter, Barbara Brown of Oquawka, Illinois, Janet Messer of Holt Summit, Missouri, and Carole Sickels of East Moline, Illnois; one son, Donald E. Bliss of Burlington; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Bliss will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Zion United Church of Christ.
