Ronald Russell "Chick" Walker, 89, of Burlington, died at 1:56 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Born January 4, 1922, in Burlington, he was the son of J. Russell and Emma Marie Scheihing Walker. On May 4, 1946, he married Helen Marie Anderson in Burlington. She died September 17, 2007. Mr. Walker worked for National Research Bureau for 33 years, and retired as manager in 1980. He then worked at First National/Firstar Bank, and retired from there in 1987. He was a 1939 graduate of Burlington High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II in the European Theatre in Africa as a cryptographer from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of the SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, Knights of Columbus No. 568, American Legion Post 52, VFW Post 10102, and a former member of the Burlington Golf Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and Iowa Hawkeye wrestling. He could repair almost anything, and became a skilled woodworker in later years. Survivors include two sons, Jim Walker and Gerry Walker, both of Burlington; one daughter, Pamela Walker of Fountain Valley, Calif.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Ann Schnedler of Cochran, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. Walker will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Father Bruce A. DeRammelaere officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Mississippi Valley Council Boy Scouts of America.
