Donald Edward Bliss, 80, of Burlington, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, in his home.
Born October 11, 1932 in Burlington, he was the son of Edward and Catherine (Cronk) Bliss. He married Loretta Underwood on October 13, 1953 in Mountain View, Alaska. Loretta passed away on September 29, 2012.
He was a 1950 graduate of Burlington High School and a U.S. Army veteran, serving as Corporal in the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954.
Don worked for Railway Postal Service from 1959 until 1966 and then continued his career with the U.S. Postal Service in Burlington from 1966 until retiring in 1987. After retirement he worked for Centre State International until 2012. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), and Burlington Model Railroad Engineers Society.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, model railroading and attending R.P.O. reunions.
Survivors include two sons, Steven (Linda) Bliss and Michael Bliss both of Burlington; four grandchildren, Dusty of Texas, Denny (Alison) of Indiana, Justin of Burlington, and Sara Jo of North Carolina; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Andrew of Indiana; one sister, Janet Messer of Holts Summit, MO and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Loretta; sisters, Barbara Brown and Carol Sickels and a brother-in-law Ray Messer.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Burlington Model Railroad Engineers Society
