Leo Edmund Walker, 74, 1924 S. 13th St., died in Elmview Care Center at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, June 5. He had been a patient there 2 1/2 months. He was born May 22, 1912 in Northfield, to Edward and Nellie Welch Walker. He married Loretta Christine Bloomberg on Oct. 14, 1985, in Burlington. He worked many years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1974. He also worked at Burnsies and was owner of Ralph.s Place. He was known on the CB radio as the "South Hill Mayor." He was a member of West Avenue Baptist Church, the American Legion and American Association of Retired Persons. He served with the US Navy in World War II as a corpsman. He is survived by his wife, at home; one daughter, Sue (Carl) Carter, Burlington; three brothers, Howard, Wellman, Lloyd, Washington, Floyd, Kalona; and two sisters, Marie McClure, Mount Pleasant, Vi Dare, Grinnell; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends at West Avenue Baptist Church from noon until services on Monday. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at West Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Arnold Boych officiating. Burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery, where military rights will be held. Burlington Funeral Home is handling arrangements. A memorial has been established for the family at West Ave. Baptist Church.
