Betty J. Walker, 73, of Middletown, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday Aug. 21, 1998 at Danville Care Center. Born Feb. 14, 1925, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Dewey and Della Baker Hookom. On May 30, 1943, she married Arlan Walker in Burlington. Mrs. Walker was a graduate of Pleasant Lawn High School in Mount Union and a graduate of the Beauty Academy in Burlington. She was a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith. She was a member of King's Daughters, 4-H, Brownies and was a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed doing craft work and sewing. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Cheryl Busby of Des Moines; two sons, Mike Walker of West Burlington and Jim Walker of Minneapolis, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Bill Hookom of West Burlington; and two sisters, Evelyn Payne of Fairfield and Ann Cott of Richardson, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Walker will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. David Rogula officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Danville Care Center.
