Obituary
Mrs. Barbara Anita Bliesener, 90, of Burlington died at 7:37 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Great
River Medical Center.
Born August 14, 1924, in Oskaloosa, she was the daughter of Julian Raymond and Anna (Sperfslage)
Pohren. On June 13, 1942, she married Sanford "Sonny" Bliesener in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded
her in death on May 11, 2011.
Mrs. Bliesener was a Burlington High School graduate. She was a homemaker and had also worked
as a sales clerk at J.S. Schramm and Co.
Mrs. Bliesener was a past member of First United Church of Christ, the National Honor Society and
the Moose Auxiliary. She loved shopping and watching Iowa Public Television, and enjoyed her yard
and flowers.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda K. (Dennis) Smith of Walcott and Robin Miller of Burlington;
four granddaughters, Amber Smith of Chicago, Illinois, Jessica (Brian) Weckerly of Orlando, Florida,
Rachel (Woodrow) Hoffman of Havre, Montana and Keli R. (Marc) Timmins of Warrington, England;
and four greatgranddaughters, Ravyn and Kearney Hoffman and Helen and Lillian Weckerly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11th, at Lunning Chapel.
Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for Iowa Public Television.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and will be accorded following the family visitation.
