Patricia Ann "Pat" Rice, 78, of Burlington died at 10:25 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2008, at her home. Born May 5, 1930, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Henry Pitzer and Margaret Lemme. On June 12, 1948, she married Lawrence R. "Pappy" Rice in Burlington. He died July 3, 1999. Mrs. Rice was a homemaker. She was of Christian faith and was an avid Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan. She enjoyed traveling to visit her family, playing cards, cooking and canning, collecting bells and hulling walnuts. Survivors include four sons, Larry, Kevin and Darrin Rice, all of Burlington, and Michael Rice of Danville; six daughters, Laura Smith of Bedford, Texas, and Connie McGinity, Diana Smith, LeAnna Wagler, Rhonda Murphy and Stacy Sturdivant, all of Burlington; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great- grandchild; two sisters, Lola Jean Allsup of St. Mary, Ohio, and Henrietta Hillyer of Middletown; and several nieces, nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces; and great-great-nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son. Visitation with family will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Prugh Funeral Home. The funeral for Mrs. Rice will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Prugh Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
