Obituary
Ronald G. Bliesener, 79, of Burlington died at 7:04 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at his home. Born on Jan. 18, 1925, in Burlington, he was the son of Rudolph Henry and Helen Lillian Russell Bliesener. On Nov. 18, 1947, he married Roberta J. Gabeline in Burlington. Mr. Bliesener worked as a photographer for The Hawkeye, at Iowa Wesleyan College for two years, at J.I. Case Co. and at Metropolitan Life Insurance until retirement in 1987. He was a member of First United Church of Christ and graduated from Burlington High School in 1942. He served in the Army during World War II in Australia and the Philippines for three and a half years. He was a member of Patriot Lotde A.F. and A.M. and a past member of the Moose and Eagles. He received many awards for his photography, was a charter member of the Iowa Press Photograph Association and wrote the column "Roaming with Ron" for the Hawk Eye. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jerry, Richard and Bob Bliesener, all of Burlington, and Ronald Thomas Bliesener of Fairfield; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Sanford "Sonny" R. Bliesener of Burlington; one sister, Dorothy Mae "Breezy" Bliesener of Burlington; and several nieces, nephwes and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from noon to 8 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel. The funeral for Mr. Bliesener will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service. A memorial has been established for First United Church of Christ and University of Iowa Press Photography.
