Marvin l. Wagler, 75, of West Burlington, died at 9:40 a.m. Friday, oct. 15, 1999. at Burlington Medical Center of mesothelioma cancer. Born April 30, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Joseph and Myrtle Florence Carithers Wagler. He married Delphia Steckel on June 23, 1946, in Burlington. Mr. Wagler was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School. He was senior project engineer for Mason and Hagar-Silas Mason Co., Inc. for 21 years, retireing in 1990. He had previously worked for the CB&Q Railroad for 17 years. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a past West Burlington City Council and Planning and Zoning Board member. He played drums for 17 years in local bands. Survivors include his wife; one son, Stephan Wagler of Camarillo, Calif.; two daughters, Judy Kingyon and Peggy Rempe both of West Burlington; five grandchildren; and four sisters, Gertrude Fletcher, Eva Schafer and Ozetta Loose, all of Burlington, and Leona Sissel of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Wagler will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Shirley Bliven officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. A memorial has been established for mesothelioma cancer research.
