Obituary
Gal B. "Red" Wagler, 95, of Burlington, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born April 12, 1916, in Burlington, he was the son of Samuel C. and Jennie M. Carithers Wagler. On April 17, 1937, he married Gladys Gibbs in Burlington. She died Nov. 16, 1976. On Nov. 3, 1979, he married Florence Rita Kempf Mumme. She died July 25, 2004. Mr. Wagler worked as a truck driver for Railway Express, and worked several years for Drake Hardware after retiring. He served in the Army 13th Airborne Division during World War II. He was of the Protestant faith. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and time at the Senior Center. Survivors include three sons, Gary Wagler, Walter Mumme, and David Mumme, all of Burlington; three daughters, Mary Orth, Susanne Mumme, and Linda Gilmore, all of Burlington; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-great- grandchilren; one brother, Oran Wagler of Burlington; one stepsister, Edith Fulton of Missouri; and special friend, Teresia Wilson of Burlington. Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by one son, one grandchild, his parents, one brother and two sisters. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The body has been cremated. The memorial service for Mr. Wagler will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for V.F.W. Lodge 10102 and Great River Hospice.
