Carl E. Voelker, 84, of 908 Shields, died at 11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in Logan county hospital, Sterling, Colo. Born Sept. 9,1895 in Burlington, he was the son of John and Matilda Schuler Voelker. He married Edna Robbins nov. 1, 1920 in Quincy, Ill.; she died July 9, 1977. He was a retired driver for Burlington Paper Co., a World War i veteran, charter member of American Legion, and member of Veterans of World War I, North End Boating Assn., and Bethany Lutheran church. He received the Carnegie Award for Heroism for rescuing a child from a house fire. Surviving: A son, Jack, Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Marion) McDonald, Sterling, Colo., with whom he was staying at the time of his death, and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Lavine, Burlington; eight grandchildren, six great-grand children; a brother, Horace, Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Ethyl Johnson, Burlington; nieces and nephews. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Prugh's Chapel, Dr. Robert Buhr; Aspen Grove cemetery. Military graveside rites by American Legion.
