Obituary

Wilbert L. "Willie" Venghaus, 93, of Burlington, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. Born August 7, 1912, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward and Julian Schmidt Venghaus. On June 19, 1954, he married Vivian Kuenzler in Kahoka, Missouri. Mr. Venghaus worked with the U. S. Postal Service in Burlington and retired on March 8, 1980. He later worked at Hallers Tavern. He served with the Navy during World War II on the USS Prometheus and went into the railway mail service from February of 1951 to April of 1968 with Abulicion of RPO. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was born on his parent's farm, the "Triple H. Ranch,: in Benton Township. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen Venghaus of Sterling, Illinois, and Tom Thye of Sierra Vista, Arizona; and three grandchildren. Rev. Carl Engstrom will officiate with interment in Aspen Grove Cemetery A memorial has been established for the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post Home.
