Mr. Dean Wesley Van Osdol, 86, of Burlington died at 9:23 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2015, at Great River Medical Center - Klein Center.
Born September 5, 1929 on a farm north and east of Middletown, he was the son of Wran Wallace and Bessie Anna (Talbort) Van Osdol. On June 28, 1953 he married Marilyn Marcella Rowley in Burlington. She preceded him in death on January 3, 1988. On November 28, 1992 he married Irene Jeanette Koger in Morning sun.
Mr. Van Osdol was an Army veteran of the Korean War, earning a purple heart for his service. He was a 1948 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Burlington Jr. College. He started work at Rutherford Potato Company, and went on to work at Burlington Motor Sales, Thomas Motor Company and Hoerner Waldorf. He retired as an engineer at I.A.A.P. in 1990 after 23 years of service.
Mr. Van Osdol attended Harmony Bible Church and was a member of N.R.A. He loved guns, hunting, woodworking, bird watching, and spending time at his cabin in Minnesota. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Van Osdol of Burlington; one son, Randy (Shirley) Van Osdol of Bozeman, Montana; three step daughters, Lana (John) Strahn of Yarmouth, Linda (Randy) Kongable of Winfield, and Luann (Phil) Cecil of Knoxville, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one sister, Juanita (Dick) Cloyed of Kearney, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marilyn; and brother, Forrest.
Friends may call after noon on Thursday, September 24th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m.
The funeral service for Mr. Van Osdol will be Friday, September 25th, at 10 a.m. at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Randy Van Osdol officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
