Randall Scott Vance, 80, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 2:27 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at GRMC Hospice House, in West Burlington, Iowa. Born January 23, 1928, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, he was the son of Clifford M. and Doris Chandler Vance. On May 7, 1950, he married Irma M. Kneeland in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mr. Vance graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1945 and Iowa Wesleyan College in 1949. Mr. Vance worked for 17 years with the Commercial State Bank of Marshalltown. In 1966 he and his family moved to Burlington, Iowa. He was office manager for Bennett Home Center, and then later for Garmac Grain in Burlington, retiring in 1992. He was a 50 year member of Marshall Lodge #108 AF & AM of Marshalltown. He was a member of Zagazig Shrine of Des Moines, Iowa, and a past patron of the Central Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Marshalltown. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burlington. He wintered in Arizona. He enjoyed playing the piano, music, cards and travel. Being visually impaired, he became an avid reader of talking books. Survivors include his wife, Irma of Burlington; two sons, Michael C. (Bonnie) Vance of Mount Pleasant, and Russell W. (Kim) Vance of Glendale, Arizona; one daughter, Karen (Dale) Ratterman of Epworth, Iowa; six grandchildren, Thomas Vance, Patrick Vance, Joseph Ratterman, Elizabeth Ratterman, Derek Vance and Canielle Vance; two step-grandchildren, AmySteinberg and Marc Steinberg; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Vance and KieranVance; one sister, Marilyn Beemblossom of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. Friends may call at Prugh's 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. The funeral for Mr. Vance will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Downing officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church and GRMC Hospice House.
