Leland LeRoy VaLeu, 85, of Burlington, died 7:05 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Blair House Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born on May 10, 1925 in Ursa, Illinois he was the son of Fred and Minnie (Wills) VaLeu. He was raised by his stepfather, Eli Adair. He married Reva Opal Gill on September 17, 1964 in Oquawka, Illinois. She preceded him in death August 17, 2004.
Leland worked in the water service department for Burlington Northern Railroad for 43 years. He retired in 1986. He was a member of Des Moines Lodge #1 AF&AM 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; KAABA Shrine and the Fraternal Order of Eagles
Survivors include his three children; Gary VaLeu of Burlington, Robert VaLeu of Burlington and Marla McFall of Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Reva; two brothers and one sister.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Mr. VaLeu will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2nd in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1st in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and the Masonic Rite will be performed at 6:00 p.m.
