Paul George Torn, 78, of Burlington, died at 1:43 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center. Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Burlington, he was the son of Hubert J. and Florence M. Krause Torn. Mr. Torn was an AEC-ALO accredited inspector by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 20 years. He also ws proprietor of the Arrowhead Motel. He was a graduate of Burlington High School. He was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church and a 49-year member and lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol. He was past commander of the Burlington Squadron and the squadron headquarters, "Torn Hall" is named after him. He continued to be a supporter. He was a World War II Air Force veteran. Survivors include one sister, Marjorie P. Wall of Frederic, Mich.; one niece, Susan Calver of Mohamet, Ill.;and one nephew Michael Wall of Aurora, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Iowa Civil Air Patrol Cadet Scholarship Foundation.
