Conrad C. (Pike) Bjork, 79, of 621 Broadway, former West Burlington mayor, died Friday, Feb 11, at St. Francis hospital.
He was born in Sweden April 4, 1892, the son of Carl and Hulda Bjork. He was a retired machinist and head served as superintendent of the turbine department at Murray Iron Works for 12 years.
He married Grace L Ruff in Chicago on June 25, 1920. He served two terms as West Burlington Mayor and also served on the West Burlington school board and volunteer fire department.
He was a member of Des Moines Lodge No. 1, AF&AM; Knights Templar, Eastern Star, Shrine and Grotto, Eagles lodge, and Railroad veterans.
Surviving; His wife; one son, Dr. FJ Bjork, Lakewood, Colo.; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Cooper, Beckley, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; one brother, Algot, West Burlington; one sister Mrs. Frieda McAllister, West Burlington; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral: 2 pm Tuesday, Prugh’s chapel, Rev. Paul Pennington; Aspen Grove Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at the chapel at 7:30 pm Monday.
