Mrs. Evelyn M. Tiemeyer, 88, of Burlington died on Friday, November 8, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born August 3, 1925 in Crawfordsville, she was the daughter of Luther and Blanche Boulton Williams. On June 13, 1948 she married Robert H. Tiemeyer at First United Church of Christ in Burlington. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2013.
Mrs. Tiemeyer was a 1943 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and a 1946 graduate of Burlington School of Nursing.
Mrs. Tiemeyer worked as a nurse in California for one year and then worked at Burlington Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker for 25 years and then after taking a refresher course returned to nursing at age 55 to work at Burlington Medical Center - Riverside Treatment Center for ten years.
Mr. and Mrs. Tiemeyer wintered in their Lakeland, Florida home for 20 years, usually leaving Iowa the day after Christmas and returning to Burlington in mid-May. Mrs. Tiemeyer was a member of both Zion United Church of Christ and First United Church of Christ. At First United Church of Christ she was active in the Crusaders group. She was a past president of the Burlington Junior Women's Club where she was also named Outstanding Young Woman of the Year, was active in the YWCA serving on the board of directors, and also served on the board of directors for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed golf and was a member of Burlington Golf Club and Jane A. Delano Nurses Association. She also enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with Bob to interesting places in the United States as well as overseas.
Survivors include her son, Jon (Joan) Tiemeyer of Iowa City; daughter, Lynda Tiemeyer of Pittsburg, Kansas; one grandson, Jason Tiemeyer of Ames; five granddaughters, Jena Tiemeyer of West Des Moines, Jessica (Jason) Ringena of Urbandale, Jilliane (Eddie) Erlbacher of West Des Moines, Nicole Ralston of Scottsdale, Arizona and Danielle (Nathan) Lowe of Pittsburg, Kansas; three great-granddaughters, Evyn Ringena, Graysen Ringena, and Aubrey Erlbacher; and four great-grandsons, Devon Grosstephan, Kaleb Lowe, Jakob Lowe and Ethan Erlbacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Annette Tiemeyer and son Russell Tiemeyer.
The funeral service for Mrs. Tiemeyer will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 13th, at First United Church of Christ with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday so the family can receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.
A memorial has been established for Hope Haven in Burlington.
