Dennis Lee Tickel, 58, of Burlington died at 8:23 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Sept. 3, 1946, in Chariton, he was the son of Kenneth and Inez Little Tickel. On Sept. 16, 2000, he married Chris Beattie in Burlington. On April 8, 1972, he married Linda Logan in Burlington. Mr. Tickel worked in maintenance for Park View Care Center. He was a graduate of West Burlington High School. He was a Vietnam War Marine veteran, serving three tours in Vietnam. He was a member of Eagles, VENA, The Magnificent Ones and a life member of VFW Posts 10102 and 9162. He was a member of the open team event, 2005 state-champion Doris' pool team. He enjoyed all sports, especially pool, bowling and slow-pitch softball. He was an avid Cubs, Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed watching the History Channel and playing cribbage. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Kasey Tickel of West Des Moines; one stepdaughter, Marcia Planthaber of Burlington; his mother and stepfather, Inez and Roger Hoambrecker of Burlington; one sister, Faye Gundy of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of service today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of service. The funeral for Mr. Tickel will be at 4 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard of VFW Posts 9162 and 10102, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League and AMVETS Post 29. A memorial has been established for Park View Care's activity and garden fund.
